***SHELLEY SEGAL 2019 AMERICAN TOUR***
“A master of creating experiential art’ -Chris Hofstader (Skepchick)
Indie folk artist Shelley Segal uses her music to create the world she wants to see. To reflect, challenge, comfort and inspire herself and her audience The rootsy singer songwriter and guitarist is a seasoned tour warrior, honing her live show at bars, clubs, festivals and lounge rooms across Australia, UK and North America over the last 5 years
“One of a newer breed of Melbourne folk acts mixing traditional sounds with jazz and pop for a unique and broadly appealing result” -Beat Magazine
Shelley grew up in Melbourne, Australia, in a religious commun
ity. As young adult she questioned her Jewish tradition with it’s strict rules and rituals which separated men and women.
Through her music, Shelley has become a staunch human rights advocate which grew out of her anger with those strict rules and regulations that especially affect women and those who want to live on their own terms
“Who is the Holy Man and what does he believe? That we must cover up our bodies, we must show humility. I believe my body is beautiful and it belongs to me” -Shelley Segal in ‘Holy Man’
Shelley’s songs relate to her journey, discussing issues of religious freedom, tribalism, and women’s issues of rape culture and inclusion over mercurial vocals, spirited and soaring one moment and the next, bottomless; growling out lyrics that poke and prod and never leave.
Suggested voluntary donation of $10
(more if you really love the FACT PRESENTS series) Meeting expectations and decorum:
The FACT collaborative events brings to San Antonio great thinkers, movers, & shakers in the Atheist, Humanist, and Science communities. It is expected that we each come with our own experiences, opinions, and knowledge of the humanist philosophy. Although at times the topics may bring some to an emotional place, both good and bad we all agree to: Listen & be present.Be respectful of the speakers and the audience, keep cell phones on silent,Take calls and conversations away from the audience, ask clear, brief questions during the question and answer clearly as disruptive behavior will not be tolerated
We have many other forums including the Denny's Breakfast and the lunches where less formal conversations can take place!
There is to be no personal unauthorized soliciting at the FACT lectures. While FACT and our speakers do often sell merchandise, we ask that visitors do not bring any merchandise or pass out brochures unless it is cleared with the FACT President or VP. This event is ultimately free to public, however it is not free to put on. Please consider contributing to the FACT PRESENTS series through event donation at the door, and or by becoming a paid member of FACT.
All FACT members are volunteers, and ALL of the money goes to the cost of event itself, including when applicable, venue cost, speaker travel & honorarium, advertising, "FACT thank you" plaques, and all other costs in supplies and support.
