Pursuant to a last minute email from the San Antonio River Authority (SARA), they are looking for a little more help with a project to clean up our city and river. Closed-toed shoes are a must and you can consider wearing long pants for the brush/bushes.
Volunteers will rotate every 30 minutes on the following tasks:
1. Hand weed removal and collecting trash/brush from site: a. Pulling Guineagrass, Buffelgrass, and Johnsongrass b. Pull away weeds that compete with trees and mulch a ring around each tree
2. Removal of invasive small woody species (ragweed, hackberry, huisache, anaqua, ligustrum, and chinaberry). Brush will be piled up in designated, open, and easily accessible locations for chipping later
3. Lopping and hand-sawing down trees under existing tree canopy and undesirable species. All trees to be removed will be pre-marked with orange paint by Watershed and Park Operations Staff, River Authority Staff and select volunteers will apply herbicide to cut stumps.
